• Year-Round Scholarships

    Friends of Parks and Recreation offers scholarships YEAR-ROUND for low-income Santa Cruz city residents.

    Contributions from the city, community groups, and generous donations from individuals make it possible.

  • Jr. Lifeguards

    Jr. Guards and Little Guards is a Santa Cruz institution that has helped local kids learn about and gain confidence in the ocean through training in safety, rescue, and a little competition.

    Your donation of any amount will make a difference and help continue this valuable program!

  • Senior Computer Center

    Since 1990, the Senior Computer Center has provided access to computers and computer training for seniors. From basic computer skills to web page design, book writing and publication, Skype to Facebook, nearly 1000 students have expanded their digital horizons.

  • Teen Center

    The center is a fun social hub for teens that provides a safe place to chill out or join recreational activities.

    The Teen Center is almost entirely dependent on donations to keep running. Please help the Center. Your donation makes a difference.

  • Louden Nelson Community Center

    The Community Center, which includes Laurel Park, is a local hub for residents of Santa Cruz and beyond to participate in a variety of recreation classes, special events, meeting and seminars, local theater performances, and more. Your donation to the Center will be used to support youth special events, facility improvements and the development of new community programming.

  • Jr. Lifeguard Boosters

    Jr. Guard Boosters is a club of parent volunteers that fundraise to support the Santa Cruz Jr. Lifeguard program. Jr. Guard Boosters provide scholarships, special equipment & supplies, competition snacks, SoCal Regional competition dinner and end of summer banquet.

    Your donation will help support this valuable summer program.

  • Jr. Guard Captain Corps

    Jr. Guard Captain Corps is a teen volunteer work experience program for returning Jr. Lifeguards ages 15 – 17. Captain Corps volunteers receive First Aid and CPR training and assist Jr. Guard instructors with the younger Jr. Guards. Captain Corps volunteers learn ocean lifesaving and public safety procedures and skills.

    Donations help provide training opportunities, equipment and uniforms for Captain Corps volunteers.

  • Juneteenth

    Support the annual Juneteenth Celebration in Laurel Park! Your donation supports this FREE event commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. The day is filled with live music, performances, free health screenings, a basketball contest, art activities and everyone’s favorite, the kid’s sack race. For over 25 years, volunteers in collaboration with the City, have dedicated time and resources to this event. The event would not be possible without community support. Help continue this important celebration!

  • Parks

    Provides funding for special amenities not included in the Parks and Recreation budget such as plaques, special lighting for Downtown, park furniture and other misc. or unique projects requested by the community.

  • Other Programs

    FOPAR provides financial assistance to Parks and Recreation programs throughout that year. Your generous donation will help many of our smaller programs continue for children, teens, families, and seniors.
